On the 5th October, Professor Andy Pike of Newcastle University received the Regional Studies Association (RSA) Best Book Award for the ‘Handbook of Local and Regional Development’ (Routledge 2011). Described by Fabrizio Barca, Italian Minister without portfolio for Territorial Cohesion, as "A must read for all those wanting seriously to understand spatial patterns in development and to engage in the difficult art of modern local and regional development policy".
