Clouds above the Hill by Shiba Ryōtarō

Clouds above the Hill is one of the best-selling novels ever in Japan, and is now translated into English for the first time.

It's an exciting, human portrait of a modernizing Japan going to war and thereby staking its very existence on a desperate bid for glory in East Asia.

During Shiba Ryōtarō’s lifetime, his books regularly became best-sellers. Clouds above the Hill, now in its 20th printing, has sold 18 million copies. The novel is currently being serialized in a lavish production on Japanese television.

Shiba devoted an entire decade of his life to this extraordinary blockbuster, which features Japan's emergence onto the world stage by the early years of the twentieth century.
The translation will be published in four volumes. The first two volumes will publish in December 2012. The final two volumes will publish a year later.
