This set examines a range of areas related to the wider social context of psychology. Personal Aggressiveness and War (1939), published at the dawn of World War Two by E.F.M. Durbin and the still well known psychologist John Bowlby, examines theories of the causes of war and the nature of aggression. Man and his Fellowmen (1944) and Co-operation, Tolerance and Prejudice (1948) both by John Lowy, argue for the need for social psychology and look at the nature of prejudice, paranoia, co-operation and tolerance, both during the war years and immediately afterwards. Themes explored in other volumes include the psychology of politics, public spirit and government, ideology and temperament and the use of symbols for social control. There are also studies on groups, leadership testing, and social research. Including titles published between 1928 and 1954, the ideas expressed in this set provide an interesting insight into the development of social psychology both during the interwar years and the years following World War Two.
