Feminist criminology grew out of the Women’s Movement of the 1970s in response to the neglect of women by, and the male dominance of, mainstream criminology. Claire M. Renzetti is Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Kentucky, USA. She is the editor of the international, interdisciplinary journal, Violence Against Women; co-editor of the Sage Violence Against Women book series; and editor of the Gender, Crime, and Law book series for Northeastern University Press/University Press of New England.
