The Routledge Handbook of Social and Cultural Theory offers a concise, comprehensive overview of the convergences and divergences of social and cultural theory, and in so doing offers a novel agenda for social and cultural research in the twenty-first century. Key social and cultural theories, ranging from classical approaches to postmodern, psychoanalytic and post-feminist approaches, are drawn together and critically appraised. There are substantive chapters looking at structuralism and post-strucutralism, critical theory, network analysis and globalization studies in social theory. There are also substantive chapters examining British cultural studies, American cultural theory, feminist cultural thought, as well as cultural theory and cultural sociology in traditions of cultural theory. Throughout there is a strong emphasis on interdisciplinarity with chapters drawing from research in sociology, psychology, politics, anthropology, women’s studies and history. The Handbook is written in a clear and direct style and will appeal to a wide undergraduate audience. The extensive references and sources will direct students to areas of further study.
