Series Details:
In the recent decades we have seen spectacular advances in our understanding of mathematical thinking, learning, and problem solving. This series is intended as a showcase for first-rate work in these areas. Addressing a broad range of issues, the volumes in this series present:
- theoretical analyses of mathematical cognition, ranging from detailed models of small numbers of students to cross-cultural studies and attempts to blend cognnitive and social analyses;
- detailed studies of learning that focus on particular topics, such as what it means to understand fractions and graphing, or algebra, and how students come to grips with these topics; and
- case studies of teaching with detailed descriptions of classroom actions and student behavior, studies of assessment, and analyses of innovative curricula.
One of the goals of the series is to bring together the views of people with radically divergent perspectives on mathematics education -- including mathematicians, cognitive scientists, and educators -- seeking a common ground and a common language.
