IAH - International Contributions to Hydrogeology

Series Editor: Nick Robins

The International Association of Hydrogeologists serves scientists, engineers and other professionals working in the field of groundwater resource planning, management and protection. Books published for IAH by CRC Press/Balkema - Taylor & Francis Group currently lie within two series titles. Both series have hard covers in distinctive colours, blue for the International Contributions to Hydrogeology (ICH) and green for the Selected Papers on Hydrogeology (SP) publication. They are often printed as joint publications with one or more of IAH's international partners and are offered to individual IAH members at a discounted price.

  1. History of Hydrogeology

Edited by Nicholas Howden, John Mather

Series: IAH - International Contributions to Hydrogeology

Lessons can be learnt from the past; from time to time it is useful for practitioners to look back over the historical developments of their science. Hydrogeology has developed from humble beginnings into the broad church of investigatory procedures which collectively form the modern-day...

Published November 28th 2012 by CRC Press

  2. Climate Change Effects on Groundwater Resources

A Global Synthesis of Findings and Recommendations

Edited by Holger Treidel, Jose Luis Martin-Bordes, Jason J. Gurdak

Series: IAH - International Contributions to Hydrogeology

Climate change is expected to modify the hydrological cycle and affect freshwater resources. Groundwater is a critical source of fresh drinking water for almost half of the world’s population and it also supplies irrigated agriculture. Groundwater is also important in sustaining streams, lakes,...

  3. Methods in Karst Hydrogeology

IAH: International Contributions to Hydrogeology, 26

Edited by Nico Goldscheider, David Drew

Series: IAH - International Contributions to Hydrogeology

The importance of investigating karstified aquifers lies in their significance as a major source of drinking water. This book describes methods that are basic to all hydrogeological studies, such as hydraulic investigations, hydrochemistry, geophysics, isotope chemistry and modelling, but with the...

  4. Introduction to Isotope Hydrology

Stable and Radioactive Isotopes of Hydrogen, Carbon, and Oxygen IAH International Contributions to Hydrogeology 25

    By Willem G. Mook

Series: IAH - International Contributions to Hydrogeology

The application of natural isotopes, stable as well as radioactive, has become a widespread tool for hydrological research, especially surface- and groundwater behaviour and exploration. By far the most common isotopes applied are those of the elements of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon, crucial in the...

  5. Understanding Water in a Dry Environment

IAH International Contributions to Hydrogeology 23

    Edited by Ian Simmers

Series: IAH - International Contributions to Hydrogeology

In order to provide water security in the twenty-first century, there is universal agreement that a continuation of current policies and extrapolation of trends is not an option. Also clear is that from both water supply and development perspectives, the world's arid and semi-arid regions are those...

  6. Urban Groundwater Pollution

IAH International Contributions to Hydrogeology 24

    Edited by David Lerner

Series: IAH - International Contributions to Hydrogeology

More than 50% of the world's population already live in cities, and the proportion is rising extremely rapidly towards developed country levels of more than 90%. Groundwater from wells is the major source of water supply for many of these cities, however, groundwater is polluted by the...

  7. Managing Water Well Deterioration

IAH International Contributions to Hydrogeology 22

    By Robert McLaughlan

Series: IAH - International Contributions to Hydrogeology

Effective management of a water well requires that the water well can meet a set of performance indicators. These can include criteria related to water quality, yield, economics and asset life. Water well deterioration due to fouling and corrosion impacts the ability of a well system to...

  8. Karst Hydrogeology and Human Activities: Impacts, Consequences and Implications

IAH International Contributions to Hydrogeology 20

Edited by David Drew, Heinz Hötzl

Series: IAH - International Contributions to Hydrogeology

One quarter of the world's population lives in karst terrains, yet karsts are highly vulnerable to stresses caused by human activity. This book surveys human impact on karst water, showing that the increasing pollution of the environment has, to a great extent, spoiled sensitive karst ecosystems....
