Additional Bibliography
The bibliographies below include the works listed in the selective “Key References,” provided in the printed text of Theatre Histories at the end of the introductions to Parts I-IV, the chapters, and the case studies. In most cases, the bibliographies have been expanded here to include additional works; the authors sometimes have listed the additional works separately and sometimes have conflated them with the listings in the text, in which case they appear under the single heading, “Key References, with Additions.”
This bibliography is split into the 4 parts of the book's structure:
Part 1 - Preface, Introduction: Performance and Theatre In Oral and Written Cultures before 1600
Part 2 - Introduction: Theatre and Print Cultures 1500-1900
Part 3 - Introduction, Theatre in Modern Media Cultures
Part 4 - Theatre and Performance in the Age of Global Communications 1950-2005
The authors are grateful to Colleen O’Reilly, University of Pittsburgh, for her assistance in helping to compile and enhance these listings.
