Mr. Garrick in ‘Richard III ,’ engraving by William Hogarth and Charles Grignion, 1746, based on Hogarth’s painting. The painting and the print had wide pubic appeal on several levels relating to British national identity in the eighteenth century. The print was being printed and sold throughout most of David Garrick’s career. (See the Chapter 5 case study on Garrick portraits.) © Gary Jay and Josephine S.Williams.
