6.1 (roughly relevant to chapter 6)

London's Drury Lane Theatre in the early 1800s in an aqua-tint engraving by Pugin and Thomas Rowlandson, done for A Microcosm of London, 1808-1810. This version of the famous theatre, designed by Henry Holland to be fireproof, opened on 12 March 1794 and burned on 24 February 1809. At the turn of the century, its most famous actors were John Philip Kemble and Sarah Siddons, his sister. The huge theatre held 3,611 spectators and had elaborate, continental style chariot-and-pole scene-changing machinery. © Gary Jay and Josephine S.Williams.
