If you click on this, you can watch a series of pictures of everyday events and a short caption with some information. They are a good and easy starting point for talking about current affairs. De Volkskrant also offers short video clips on current events, click on video.

Every ladybird denotes a level, click on the first ladybird and try the ‘green’ exercises for free, if you want to have access to everything, you need to subscribe. You can return to this website and try other exercises when your Dutch gets better.

http://www.aldi.nl Website of cheap supermarket chain, where you can find information on what they stock and sell. Fairly easy language and short pieces of text make this website useful for beginners.
www.fok.nl Chatsite where young people discuss current affairs, ranging from serious international issues to glamour models and popstarts. The language is very close to spoken language and will give you a good idea of the use of small words in spoken language. This site may contain racist and sexist comments.

Website of popular (young) women’s magazine where you may find discussions such as in the closer look text. Look in the delen (sharing) section for the discussion forum in the Dutch site and go to forum in the Belgian one.

Vrij Nederland is a weekly magazine, click on opinie to go to the opinion page. As columns often tackle very current topics, you will have to be aware of what is going on in the Netherlands to understand what they are talking about.
