About the Author
John Field teaches applied linguistics
at Kings College London, and is a Teaching Fellow at the University
of Leeds.
While he has taught many areas of Psycholinguistics, his particular
interest lies in language processing. His research area is auditory
processing (i.e. listening) in both first and foreign languages.
He also has knowledge and experience of Second Language Acquisition,
and his long-term goal is to apply insights from language processing
in order to extend and transform our understanding of how foreign
language learners operate.
John came to specialise in Psycholinguistics after
doing his PhD at Cambridge University's Research Centre for English
and Applied Linguistics. Before that, he was an ELT teacher trainer
and materials writer, with many publications to his name. He has
worked in the Middle East, the Far East and Africa as well as in
many parts of Europe, and has written for radio and TV.
