The study of children's language development involves many areas of linguistics and psychology. The following links contain useful sources of general background information on these fields as well as some more advanced treatments.

The Linguistic Society of America site has a Resources section with a series of links to other linguistics websites and an About Linguistics section with introductory articles on several areas of linguistics written by distinguished researchers in the field as well as an 'Ask-A-Linguist' feature, where anyone interested in language or linguistics can ask a question and get the response of a panel of professional linguists.

Talkin' About Talk has an archive of over 20 Real Audio files of programmes in the 'Talkin' About Talk' series. The series, part of the 2005: The Year of Languages celebration, is designed to encourage language study and invite listeners to look further into the subject of each essay. The material was written by a wide-ranging group of experts, including some of the most well-known linguists in America.

Language, Modality and the Brain. A collection of research papers in PDF format from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, headed by Dr. Karen Emmorey and Dr. Ursula Bellugi. The papers look at language across different modalities, and focus primarily on (ASL) sign language.
