About the Author

Dr Paul Connolly is Reader in Education at Queen's University Belfast. He has researched and published extensively in the area of diversity, equity and young children and is particularly interested in understanding the ways in which gender, social class and ‘race’/ethnicity impact upon young children’s lives and identities and come to influence and shape their attitudes towards education and learning.

His previous books include:

  • Racism, Gender Identities and Young Children (1998, Routledge)
  • Researching Racism in Education (1998, Open University Press, with Barry Troyna)
  • Too Young to Notice? The Cultural and Political Awareness of 3-6 Year Olds in Northern Ireland (2002, Community Relations Council, with Alan Smith and Berni Kelly)
  • Children and the Conflict in Northern Ireland: The Experiences and Perspectives of 3-11 Year olds (2004, Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister, with Julie Healy).
