An additional area of investigation is to compare grammatical features in different parts of the same type of academic text. For example, you could gather a few examples of research articles from one discipline (even from one journal) which have a general organisation ‘Introduction- Methods – Results – Discussion’. Can you identify grammatical features that seem to be more common in one section rather than others? Why should this be so?
