About the Authors

WERS 2004: Authors’ biographies

Barbara Kersley is Head of the WERS Research Team and is a Principal Research Officer at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). She has a background in labour economics and research into employment and employment relations issues. Her research interests are in work-life balance and dispute resolution.

Carmen Alpin is a Senior Research Officer at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). She has a background in industrial relations. Her research interests are in employment relations and human resource management.

John Forth is a Research Fellow at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research. His main research interests are in the areas of employee representation, pay determination and workplace performance. He also has a particular interest in the dynamics of change in employment relations practice.

Gill Dix is Head of Research and Evaluation at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas). She has a background in social and public policy research. Her interests are workplace employment relations, employee involvement and dispute resolution.

Sarah Oxenbridge is a Senior Research Officer at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas). Her research interests relate to: trade union-management co-operative relationships; workplace consultation, communication, and negotiation practices; and the links between employment relations practices and organisational
effectiveness.

Alex Bryson is a Principal Research Fellow at the Policy Studies Institute and an editor of the British Journal of Industrial Relations. His primary research interests are industrial relations and labour economics.

Helen Bewley is a Research Fellow at the Policy Studies Institute. Her research interests are in work-life balance and gender equality in employment. In particular, she is interested in the role that trade unions play in promoting equality in the workplace.
