Activities

Use these activities to help you develop aspects of your teaching. There are proformas that you can download to help you complete these exercises. The proformas are Rich Text Format documents so you can easily add your comments, save and print.

Activity 1.3: Your planning checklist

Add to the list of advice provided on pp6-7 to develop your own planning checklist to fit the circumstances of your school.

Activity 2.2: Environmental and welfare factors

These factors are detailed in the chapter:

  • Motivation
  • Health and Safety Issues
  • Use of resources appropriately
  • Displays
  • Weather and room temperature
  • Interruptions
  • Illness, ventilation, voice

What other environmental or welfare factors might impact on the learning in your classroom? Using the above and your list, discuss the factors and place them in order of the level of impact on learning in your classroom. Think in particular about those children with less than perfect hearing and vision.

Activity 2.7: Levels of impact

Use the list of issues in resource organisation on p21 and any potential problems you have thought of. Discuss them and place in order of the level of impact each may have on the learning in a lesson.

Activity 3.9 Enhancing future performance

Choose an objective and the associated task outcomes from a lesson you recently taught. Translate these into language appropriate for pupils. Now write down, using similar language, four descriptors for the possible levels of outcome, structured to clearly indicate how the pupil might reach the next level above.

Activity 8.8 Five topics for exploration

1. Write down five topics where exploration could make the subject of ICT more interesting

2. Write down what steps you would need to do as a teacher to prepare pupils to explore each of the topics you have outlined

3. Write down any barriers to using exploration with your pupils

4. Write down how those barriers can be overcome.

Activity 10.1 & 10.2 An area for development using a reflective learning cycle

Identify an area to develop in your teaching. Discuss this with your mentor or with a colleague. Observe how other teachers address this issue and consider possible approaches which could adopt. Identify how this area for development is represented in the QtT standards.
