Animation World Network. The database section is pretty minimal and often incorrect; the best thing is the magazine’s breadth of articles, mainly written by animators, critics or festival programmers. The What’s New section in AWN is convenient for updates. The Animation Village has several listings and links to animators, organizations, festivals and so on, in the animation world. Artists such as Caroline Leaf and Alison Snowden/David Fine have their own home pages on AWN. The same has Nicole Salomon’s AAA in Annecy, Folioscope, ASIFA Hollywood and ASIFA San Francisco, as well as the Society for Animation Studies, Motion Picture Screen Cartoonists Union Local 839 and the Writers’ Guild of America. There are also links to other similar home pages not hosted by AWN, such as ASIFA International.

You can go through its whole catalogue of films with descriptions; many of the most important filmmakers have their own biography; and the history of NFBC is extensively described. The main problem with the NFBC home page is that the entry page is too big. It takes minutes to download; skip it and go directly to the index.

There are links to the BFI special collections unit and to the BFI stills unit, many of whose materials are also available online. For those working within licensed educational institutions it is also possible to download clips for a wide range of key films, many of which are otherwise unavailable.
