About the Authors
Simon Egenfeldt-Nielsen, Jonas Heide Smith, and Susana Pajares Tosca are members of the Center for Computer Games Research at IT University of Copenhagen.
Simon Egenfeldt-Nielsen earned his MA in Psychology at the University of Copenhagen. His PhD at the IT-University of Copenhagen focused on the educational potential of computer games, and he later led a two year research project with the same focus. Today, he spends most of his time as the CEO of Serious Games Interactive, which developed the acclaimed game Global Coflicts: Palestine. Previously, he worked for three years with the production of online games and large-scale web services with the web agency Framfab. He is co-founder and editor (with Jonas Heide Smith) of the popular resource for game studies, www.game-research.com. He is the author and co-author of three books on computer games and learning. He has also served as reviewer for several conferences, journals and research projects. He has served a board member of The Digital Games Research Association (DiGRA) for three years. He has taught computer games at the MA level and has traveled frequently to speak to international audiences about the educational use of computer games.
Jonas Heide Smith holds an MA in Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen. He has worked for three years as a web editor and has served for several years as a consultant and lecturer on computer games. He has taught computer-mediated communication and similar subjects at The University of Copenhagen, The Copenhagen Business School and The IT University of Copenhagen. He is co-founder and editor (with Simon Egenfeldt-Nielsen) of the popular resource for game studies, www.game-research.com. He is the co-author of a critically acclaimed book in Danish on computer games and serves as reviewer at the international journal of game research Game Studies. Jonas is presently enrolled in the PhD program at the Center for Computer Games Research.
Susana Pajares Tosca is Associate Professor at the IT University of Copenhagen, where she is a member of the Innovative Communication Research Group and the Center for Computer Games Research. She heads the Digital Design and Communication Study Program. Her PhD on Digital Literature was awarded the "summa cum laude" distinction and has appeared in book form (Universidad de Extremadura Press, 2004); she has published extensively on the subjects of digital literature and computer games in several languages. She is a director at the board of the Electronic Literature Organization, and an editor for the Journal of Digital Information and Game Studies, the first peer-reviewed academic journal for computer games research which she co-founded with Espen Aarseth. Susana has taught a number of courses on computer games at the IT University of Copenhagen.
