Advances in Power Electronic Converters

About the Series

Recent advances in power semiconductor devices (e.g., ultra-fast recovery, silicon carbide, gallium-nitride), soft magnetic materials (e.g., amorphous/nanocrystalline) and controllers have led to the development of new high power density efficient power converters for emerging applications e.g. renewable energy, transportation, smart power grid, smart buildings, modern industries, and so forth. However, the design process of the application specific advanced technology-based power converters involves multiphysics problems that entail complex tradeoffs among reliability, efficiency, size and weight, and cost. Therefore, extensive multiphysics work in the field of new power electronic converter topologies, switching and control, EMI/EMC and signal integrity, protection and condition monitoring, and design and optimization of magnetic components has attracted significant interest recently to develop the next-generation power converters. This series will serve to collect recent advancements in energy conversion with advanced power converters with the emphasis on the new design, optimization, switching, and control methods and new protection and condition monitoring techniques. Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines and Drives: Flux Weakening Advanced Control Techniques

1st Edition

By Wei Xu, Moustafa Magdi Ismail, Md. Rabiul Islam
July 31, 2023

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are popular in the electric vehicle industry due to their high-power density, large torque-to-inertia ratio, and high reliability. This book presents an improved field-oriented control (FOC) strategy for PMSMs that utilizes optimal proportional-integral (...
