This book represents both a milestone and a celebration. It brings together in one place all the theories and models that have emerged from the work of David Clutterbuck, one of the last surviving, first pioneers of coaching and mentoring, who has significantly helped to shape the field; and is published as his 75th book at age 75.

Many of the models and approaches familiar to coaches and mentors are based in David’s prolific research, writing and practice, from Systemic Talent Management, through Team Coaching from a Complex, Adaptive Systems perspective, Personal Reflective Space, to the Diversity Awareness Ladder. "This book is a feast to be savoured. It is David’s fine interweaving of insight, humour, instruction, calculation, percipience, confidence and humility that make this book a triumph. If I had to choose only one source of knowledge to give to a coach, new or seasoned, this would be it. Thank you, David, for bringing your compelling and articulate self to every sentence, and to our lives."

Nancy Kline, President, Time To Think; Author, The Promise That Changes Everything and Time To Think

"A conversation with David is always fun, enjoyable and spiced with learning, and this book is a rich David Clutterbuck conversation. David draws on all his rich gleanings from 75 years of learning, teaching, researching and practising, always keen to challenge himself and others and go to the next learning edge. To get the best from this rich conversation, I recommend having a good red wine and boundless curiosity with you, as well as responding with the learning and questions that it invokes for you."

"A life dedicated to science, human capital and leadership development, with precious contributions to the field of coaching and mentoring… On behalf of EMCC Global and our community at large, I’m pleased to extend our gratitude for everything we learned from David. On a personal level, I’m also so glad to have the opportunity to thank him, as he has been a true motivator and a source of learning and inspiration for me."

Dr Riza Kadilar, EMCC Global President

"It is a risk writing a book reviewing a career. The temptation to nostalgia or self promotion is great but even more so the rehashing of old ideas. David Clutterbuck is well aware of the risks and set out not to declare his achievements but rather to look at the journey he and indeed the fields of coaching and mentoring have taken. They are very much tied together since he is pre-eminent in shaping both disciplines. What might a reader of this book gain apart from a curiosity about the man and his work? An overview of major ideas influencing the field will certainly be one area. More important perhaps is the way ideas have been changing and the key place of learning his own and the practices in the field. David is a continuous learner in the best sense and is open to challenge and change - if the evidence so indicates. In 75 years he has written 75 books. I cannot claim to have read them all but those I have were influential in shaping thinking. Beyond this his contribution with others to creating the European Mentoring Centre and later the European Mentoring and Coaching Council has been of major significance in building a professional approach to coaching and mentoring. Do you need to know David’s work to benefit from reading? No. Will you gain from it? Yes. It is a short trip through our history as well as an account of a personal journey. Definitely a good read and one that appropriately marks David’s career and contribution for which we are grateful."
