Description

This book will focus on synthesis, coating and functionalization chemistry of selected nanoparticles that are most commonly used in various biomedical applications. Apart from standard selected chemical synthetic methods, it focusses on design consideration of functionalization, selected coating chemistry for transforming as synthesized nanoparticle, selected conjugation chemistries and purification approach for such nanoparticles. It also includes state-of-art/future prospect of nanodrugs suitable for clinical applications. There will material on general application potential of these nanoparticles, importance of functionalization and common problems faced by non-chemists.

Table of Contents

Chapter 1 ◾ Application Potential of Nanoparticles and Importance of Functionalization Chapter 2 ◾ Design Considerations of Nanoparticle Functionalization Chapter 3 ◾ Chemical Synthetic Methods of Selected Nanoparticles Chapter 4 ◾ Selected Coating Chemistry for Water-Soluble, Core-Shell–Type Nanoparticles with Cross-Linked Shells Chapter 5 ◾ Selected Conjugation Chemistries for Making Chemically or Biochemically Functionalized Colloidal Nanoparticles Chapter 6 ◾ Clinic Nanodrugs: State of the Art and Future Chapter 7 ◾ Common Issues Faced in Preparation of Functional Nanoparticles and Guidelines to Solve Them

About the Author

Nikhil Ranjan Jana received his PhD in chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur in 1994. He was a postdoctoral fellow at University of South Carolina (1999-2001) with Professor Catherine J. Murphy and at University of Arkansas (2003) with Professor Xiaogang Peng. He moved to Singapore in 2004 and worked as a Scientist at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, until he returned to India in 2008 and began his independent research carrier at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS). He is currently Professor and head at the Centre for Advanced Materials at IACS. His laboratory focuses on chemical synthesis of colloidal nanobioconjugate and their application as bioimaging nanoprobe and for prevention/curing of neurodegenerative diseases. He has authored or co-authored 140 peer-reviewed articles on basic and applied nanoscience, with a primary focus on tuning of nanoparticle surface chemistry toward various biomedical applications.
