Geotechnical Problems and Solutions
A Practical Perspective
- Available for pre-order. Item will ship after November 24, 2020
This book covers problems and their solution of a wide range of geotechnical topics. Every chapter starts with a summary of key concepts and theory, followed by worked-out examples, and ends with a short list of key references. It presents a unique collection of step by step solutions from basic to more complex problems in various topics of geotechnical engineering, including fundamental topics such as effective stress, permeability, elastic deformation, shear strength and critical state together with more applied topics such retaining structures and dams, excavation and tunnels, pavement infrastructure, unsaturated soil mechanics, marine works, ground monitoring.
This book aims to provide students (undergraduates and postgraduates) and practitioners alike a reference guide on how to solve typical geotechnical problems.

Professor Buddhima Indraratna is a Civil Engineering graduate from Imperial College, London, and obtained his PhD from the University of Alberta in 1987. He has worked in industry in several countries before becoming an academic, and has been a United Nations Expert and Foreign Advisor to numerous overseas projects. Prof Indraratna’s pioneering contributions to railway geotechnology and various aspects of geotechnical engineering have been acknowledged through numerous national and international awards.
Dr Ana Heitor is a senior lecturer specializes in the behaviour of compacted materials under unsaturated conditions.
Dr Jayan Vinod is a senior Lecturer with research focus is on Discrete element modelling and chemical soil stabilisation.
