Book Description

To get the full Being With Our Feelings experience, this book can be purchased alongside the guidebook. All books can be purchased together as a set, Being With Our Feelings: Guidebook and Four Storybooks Set, 978-0-367-77231-4.

In this beautifully illustrated story meet Amelie, a little girl that feels as if she doesn’t want to be who she is. One day she goes on a walk where she meets a series of friends all just being themselves -- a tree, a pea, the sea, a bee and a flea. Amelie tries very hard to become each one, but discovers that it’s exhausting and painful trying to become something other than yourself.

Full of enchanting illustrations and relatable characters this book:

  • encourages self-exploration as we follow Amelie on her walk, exploring the different things she could potentially be
  • introduces children to the ideas of self-acceptance as they arrive, alongside Amelie at the notion that the best thing you can be is who you are
  • depicts emotional wellbeing through a greater sense of self-worth understanding that acknowledging feelings is key to acceptance.
  • ends with reflection questions to encourage deeper understanding of what it means to be yourself.

This book is essential reading for teachers, parents, and anyone who wishes to help children feel heard, seen and accepted just as they are.
