The Sixth International Congress of the International Association of Engineering Geok>gy marks the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of the Association and the themes of the Congress were chosen to reflect the broad spectrum of activities within the discipline of Engineering Geology. The Proceedings include more than 500 papers submitted by authors from 52 countries. Each of the seven main themes is preceded by a 'Keynote Paper' written by authors of international reknown. The papers submitted were reviewed by 28 panel reporters from 15 countries; their reviews are also included in the Proceedings. As well as the general themes the Congress included four symposia. These symposia dealt with the topics of the use of computers in Engineering Geology, pollution, environmental protection and waste disposal, coastal engineering and Engineering Geology in the oil industry. The Congress Proceedings can thus be taken to represent the current interests in international Engineering Geology and give the 'State of the Art' in 1990.
