MODE 2015 Conference Proceedings PDF CoverCo-Editors: Andre Murnieks, Gretchen Rinnert, Brian Stone and Rebecca Tegtmeyer

Jointly presented by The University of Notre Dame, The Ohio State University, Kent State University and Michigan State University, this international conference was held in Dublin, Ireland, 03–05 June, 2015. The event brought together motion design educators and practitioners from different areas of expertise and application. Presentations and discussions centered around the question of how motion may enhance, effect, or change messages, meaning, and communication.

Papers will be of particular interest to professionals and educators engaged in the following areas: graphic design, visual communication design, typography, cinema, theatre, animation and storytelling. The papers address the growing field of motion design and offer scholarly driven literature and examples to support and challenge educators. MODE was a peer reviewed conference with a discerning acceptance rate of 29%, with attendees representing 13 countries.

The MODE 2015 Conference Proceedings are available for digital download as both a PDF and/or a media-rich ePUB featuring selected animation and video supporting the paper presentations. The ePUB version is compatible with iBooks and Adobe Digital Editions, which is a free download from Adobe for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.

Here’s what participants had to say about MODE 2015:

“The idea of industry luminaries sharing their insights as to what has led them to success in the industry is essential. I loved it. We are training our students to become thinking designers in the industry, and we as teachers shouldn't be isolated in a university vacuum.” —Anonymous attendee of MODE 2015

“The presentations made a huge impact. I am interested in how students can become specialists and get jobs in this field. It is super exciting for me to hear the academic and professional perspective. I also appreciate the emphasis on motion design as a creative endeavor--not just a commercial job. (Art of the Title etc) Would love to see this continue.” —Anonymous attendee of MODE 2015

“I will incorporate several of the ideas and concepts presented (by the intelligent people who spoke at MODE) into my curriculum. Again, it was useful to see what others are doing around the world to most effectively prepare their students.” —Anonymous attendee of MODE 2015
