Fleur St Clair Houston


Fleur Houston is a writer and theologian and an ordained minister of the United Reformed Church with extensive local, national and international experience. Her recent book draws on her involvement as an advocate with the Churches Refugee Network. She has published chapters in books and articles in Journals and is currently engaged in writing an intellectual biography of the distinguished theologian, John Wood Oman.

Biography

As part of her degree course in French language and literature at the University of Aberdeen, she spent a year at the Sorbonne, Paris, where she obtained the Certificat d'études francaises.  On completing her B.Litt thesis on Technical Competence and Appreciation in Diderot's Art Criticism, she held lectureships successively in the French departments of Belfast and Manchester Universities.  After a gap to bring up her children, she undertook ordination training in Cambridge where she also read for the Tripos in Theology.  She then served pastorates in Sheffield and Blackbird Leys, Oxford.  She has also been extensively involved with national and international ecumenical affairs, most notably as a member of the Council of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe and travels widely in Europe and further afield.
