Dr. Rajan Rajabalaya, Lecturer

Graduated BPharm with honours in 1998 (India), graduated MPharm in 2001 (India), awarded PhD April 2009 (India), served 8 years in academia (India and Malaysia), held position of Lecturer in Pharmaceutics covering all aspects of pharmaceutical technology and basic formulation science.


Rajan Rajabalaya, PhD is Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Technology at the School of Pharmacy, International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Dr Rajabalaya obtained his B. Pharm from The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai,India in 1998, M. Pharm and PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology from the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India in 2001 and 2009, respectively.  Dr Rajabalaya currently holds the position of Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Technology in the School of Pharmacy, International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Dr Rajabalaya’s research interests are in the areas of topical and transdermal drug delivery system design and development; ethosomes; liposomes; proniosome drug delivery systems ; liquid crystal drug delivery systems ; vaginal drug delivery ; nanoparticulate and microencapsulated drug delivery systems ; biomaterials ; and polymer membrance characterisation.  He has published 20 peer reviewed scientific papers in his chosen scientific area and presented 18 conference abstracts at international conferences.  He is the coeditor of 1book in which he wrote 20 book chapters.


    Formulation and characterization:
     Selection of suitable drugs for the transdermal formulations
     Formulation of transdermal patches with suitable polymer & copolymer
     Tensile strength measurement

    In vitro release studies
     In-vitro diffusion characterization of controlled drug delivery system
     In vitro and invivo permeation studies by using various animal skin (rat and mice)

     Spectroscopy: UV-Spectro, UV-Visible and FTIR.
     Chromatography: TLC and HPLC.
     Other instruments: Viscometer, XRD analysis, pH meter, Cooling Centrifuge, Inverted Microscope
