The Queen's University of Belfast

Colin discovered the delights of studying personality, intelligence and their measurement (psychometrics) at the University of Exeter. After three years selecting pilots for the Royal Air Force he returned to academic life at Exeter, studied for his PhD under Paul Kline, then lectured at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland and Queen's University, Belfast. He has published 70+ journal articles, six books - and continues to enjoy writing from his new home in Canada.

Biography

Since taking early retirement I have more time to do the things that I enjoy, which include writing.  One has to do something to keep sane in the long Ontario winters!  So far I have produced a book on human mental abilities, another on psychometrics, and am currently writing the 4th (and considerably expanded) edition of "Individual Differences".  I also give the occasional talk, examine the occasional PhD, and am senior associate editor of the journal "Personality & Individual Differences" - the journal of the International Society for the Study of Individual Differences.  I would strongly urge anyone with an interest in this area of psychology to join the society!

Education

    BSc (Hons) University of Exeter
    PhD University of Exeter

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

My main research interests are in the areas of individual differences - human intelligence (and other mental abilities), personality, mood and motivation - and their assessment.

Personal Interests

Apart from playing with our two cats, I enjoy classical (mainly baroque) music, walking, making (and drinking) wine, and sitting on the dunes at Sandbanks Provincial Park reading, listening to podcasts and watching Lake Ontario.
