Biography

Dr Jones is a Consultant in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He was appointed as an NHS Consultant in July 2014 by the South Tees NHS Trust. His NHS practice is based at the James Cook University Hospital in Teesside and the Friarage Hospital in North Yorkshire. His private practice is based on Teesside at the Nuffield Hospital and the Queensway skin clinic.

His clinical practice covers the breadth of plastic surgery with specialist interests in facial, head and neck reconstruction and in breast reconstruction following cancer. He is fully trained in microsurgery and free tissue transfer and is developing services in nasal reconstruction and facial palsy. He also provides body contouring surgery for patients who have achieved substantial weight loss as well as adult and paediatric trauma management including limb injuries and burns.

Current Memberships
Dr Jones has full accreditation with the General Medical Council: Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery (6099098) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). He is also a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists (BAHNO)

Surgical Training
Following a first class degree in Physiology, Dr Jones qualified from Leeds Medical School UK in 2004 finishing in the top 10% of the academic year group receiving several commendations, distinctions and prizes during his degree. Postgraduate medical and surgical training in the North East of England led to higher surgical training in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. He passed the Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship examination for Plastic Surgery in 2012. In 2013, he ranked first in national selection for the Training Interface Group Fellowship (TIG) in head and neck oncological surgery, which he completed at the Christie hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary in the UK. This was a full time microsurgical fellowship. He completed further aesthetic training in Leeds and Manchester before commencing his Consultant post.

Teaching Experience
Dr Jones is a keen educator of doctors and allied health professionals including nurses, therapists and healthcare workers. He previously lectured to undergraduates in physiology, biomechanics and sports science and currently has both educational and clinical supervision roles for doctors in surgical training. He regularly teaches on surgical courses including the Northeast flap course and the Royal College of Surgeons of England "Basic skills in plastic surgery" course. He is currently the local Consultant representative for plastic surgery registrar training, and is a member of the panel for the annual appraisal and assessment of plastic surgeons in training for Health Education North East (HENE). He is a panel member for national recruitment into the national plastic surgery training scheme organised by the London Deanery.

    Dr Jones has published numerous scientific articles including clinical studies, case reports and educational material. He has also written chapters for educational books including the management of burns in prehospital care and head and neck reconstruction.

Personal Interests

    Dr Jones was previously a professional figure skating coach and trained many skaters of all levels including beginners and national level skaters. He still enjoys figure skating himself and following the current international skating scene. Dr Jones enjoys modifying cars and has had a number featured in magazines and in car shows. He also enjoys walking and cycling in the surrounding parts of North Yorkshire close to where he lives.
