Howard L. Nixon II has been involved in sport sociology for nearly 45 years and is the author of several books and book chapters and many articles in this area. Other major areas of research and teaching interest include groups, organizations, and social networks, the sociology of disabilities and disability sport, and social change in higher education. He is the author of Sport in a Changing World, now in its second edition.

Biography

In 2014, Johns Hopkins University Press published his book about commercialism and college sports reform in the United States, The Athletic Trap: How College Sports Corrupted the Academy. He received his B.A. (Social Relations) from Lehigh University and Ph.D. (Sociology) from the University of Pittsburgh. He has been a faculty member and administrator at the University of Vermont and Appalachian State University as well as at Towson University.
