Caroline Bongiwe Ncube

Caroline Ncube is currently a Professor and Head of the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Cape Town. She is a South African National Research Foundation rated researcher. She joined the Department of Commercial Law in January 2005. She has also lectured at the University of Limpopo and University of Zimbabwe as well as practiced as an attorney. Her subject expertise lies in Intellectual Property (IP) Law, Corporations Law and Electronic Law. IP in Africa is her primary focus.


I play an active role in various professional associations and participates in socially responsive research projects. I am often invited to give lectures and seminars in Intellectual Property to various constituencies including World Intellectual Property Organisation Summer School students and librarians. I am also actively involved in research projects that focus on open development, access to knowledge and the promotion of a balanced approach to IP. She is also the founding co-editor of the South African Intellectual Property Law Journal.
