Randy Duncan

Professor of Communication
Henderson State University

I am a Professor of Communication and Comics Studies at Henderson State University. Rhetorical theory is at the core of my teaching and research. Much of my scholarship has explored the rhetoric of the comics form. This focus has led to my co-founding the first academic conference devoted to Comics Studies, co-authoring some of the leading Comics Studies textbooks, and helping develop a Comics Studies Minor at Henderson State.

I am a New Orleans native who has lived in Arkansas for nearly three decades.  I miss the food and the music down home, but with great friends and wonderfully supportive administrators here at Henderson State University I'll probably stay in the natural state a bit longer.  The Huie Library at HSU has an extensive collection of graphic novels and Comics Studies literature that supports my teaching and research.  Everyone from Eisner to McCloud to Sacco has visited the campus.

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

Rhetorical Theory, Comics Studies, Communication Criticism, Persuasion

Personal Interests

I travel more than I can afford and eat more than I should.  I am always seeking new locales to explore and searching for a good shrimp po-boy north of Alexandria, Louisiana.  My work requires that I read a lot of comic books and graphic novels, yet I endeavor to persevere.
