Gary E. Martin is a Professor at Lamar University. Before coming back to Texas he was Professor at Northern Arizona University for sixteen years. He has degrees from UT Austin, UT San Antonio, and Texas A&M. His field is educational leadership and prior to his 24 years at the university level, he was a school administrator in San Antonio. He and his lovely wife Paulette have three daughters residing in San Antonio, San Francisco, and Portland.


Gary E. Martin is currently Professor in the Educational Leadership Department at Lamar University.  He served as President of the Board (2005-06) and Executive Director (2006-10) of the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration. He also served on the National Policy Board for Educational Administration, the Educational Policy Standards: ISLLC 2008 Steering Committee, and the Board of Reviewers for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.  Dr. Martin has delivered over 70 presentations at university, state, regional, national and international conferences. He trained faculties and administrators in 47 schools or districts in Texas, California, Arizona, and Iowa in the use of student problem-solving versus punitive methods and published his book on the topic.  His research includes leadership skill development, natural motivation, and school reform. Gary was a high school teacher, vice-principal, middle and alternative school principal, and staff developer in the Texas public school system.  He previously taught at Northern Arizona University, Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, and Texas A&M University at Kingsville.

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

    Educational leadership, school reform, and helping public school teachers and administrators teach problem solving instead of using punishments.  His training in both elementary and secondary schools yield a 92% reduction in office referrals and form caring and trusting relationships between the adults and students.
