Acting Assistant Provost for Faculty Development and Professor of Higher Education & Social Foundations at Ball State University, has been publishing and teaching in the areas of educational biography, educational history, autoethnography, biographical methodologies, qualitative methods, and other life writing scholarship for over 25 years. She has twice served as the President of the International Society for Educational Biography (ISEB), co-edits The Teacher Educator journal, serves as a member of the editorial review board for three other top-tier education journals. She was awarded the Virginia B. Ball Fellowship for Creative Inquiry that supported an educational biographical theatrical performance researched, written, produced, and performed by a group of 15 undergraduate teacher-education students each portraying an educational thinker/theorist. In addition, she serves in leadership roles for AERA within both the Biographical and Documentary-SIG, Qualitative Research-SIG, and the Research Focus on Education and Sport-SIG.
