Susan Perry Gurganus is Professor Emeritus of Special Education, College of Charleston, with a research focus in mathematics learning disabilities. She currently lives in Raleigh, NC, and is a consultant, writer, and visiting professor.

Biography

Dr Gurganus taught elementary grades 3 to 5, ESEA Title I mathematics, middle-grades mathematics, and high-school special education in Wake County (NC) and grade 6 with the Department of Defense  in Munich, Germany. She was consultant for exceptional children with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (1985 - 1989) before moving to Charleston, SC. She taught undergraduate and master's level special-education teachers for 21 years, primarily in learning disabilities, learning strategies, and mathematics learning disabilities. In 2015 Dr Gurganus was named Alumna of the year at Mars Hill University, where she founded a scholarship for special education majors.
