Arpan Kumar Kar

Biography

Dr. Kar teaches in Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, in the area of Information Systems, Department of Management Studies. He is also associated with the Bharti School of Telecom and the CoE in Cyber Systems and Information Assurance in IIT Delhi. He teaches subjects like E-Commerce, Internet Marketing, Software Project Management, Business Analytics, IT Consulting and Management Information Systems. He is/has been the Chairman / Coordinator / Member of different administrative portfolios like Smart Campus, Office Automation, Corporate Relations and Placements, Faculty Recruitment, Post Doctoral Fellow recruitment, Case Center and Policy & Vision. He has also offered advisory services to Multinational Private Enterprises and PSU / Ministries under the Government of India.


Prior to joining IIT Delhi, he has taught in IIM - Rohtak as Assistant Professor(v) for 2 years. In IIM Rohtak, he has held multiple administrative responsibilities as the Chair / Faculty in Charge / Committee Member of departments like Research, Projects, Admissions(CAT), Placements, PGP Executive committee, PGP Committee, FPM Committee, Capital Purchases, etc. In the past, prior to joining academics, he has rich industry experience with Cognizant Business Consulting and IBM - India Research Laboratory. He has also provided his advisory expertise as a free-lance consultant for multiple multinational organizations, GoI organizations and start-up web-based ventures. He has also been a Visiting Professor in reputed National Institutes ( IIM L, A, IIFT).


Education wise, he has completed his Doctorate  and Post Graduation in Business Management from XLRI Jamshedpur. Prior to that, He has completed his Graduation in Engineering (gold medalist) with specialization in Information Technology, from Jadavpur University. Broadly, his areas of interest include e-Commerce, Web 2.0, technology management and business analytics. He shares a keen research interest in smart technologies, machine learning, decision support systems and their applications in mobile commerce, e-governance, e-commerce, smart cities & social media. His research has been published in multiple refereed international journals and has presented papers in several leading international management conferences.
