Biography
Alane Starko is a professor of Educational Psychology in the Department of Teacher Education at Eastern Michigan University. She started her career as an elementary school teacher in a small rural school district in upstate New York, then worked as a resource teacher in a gifted and talented program in Danielson, Connecticut. She moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan with the intent of staying for a few years and moving back to the east coast. Thirty+ years later, Ann Arbor is home. From the beginning, she has been interested in all things creative, and particularly in how to encourage creativity in young people. Other professional interests and publications have centered on curriculum development, teacher thinking, assessment, and differentiation.
When not working, Alane enjoys inventing stories, making mosaics, making music (if not always beautifully), and traveling with her favorite creative person, husband Bob.
