Maria is Assistant Dean (Education) for the School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery, at the University of the West of Scotland. She is a registered midwife, registered nurse and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her main area of responsibility is to provide academic leadership to positively influence student satisfaction and success.

Biography

Maria commenced her nursing and midwifery career in the 1980's and moved in to higher education in 2000. She has experience as a midwife lecturer and senior lecturer for practice learning. In her current role as Assistant Dean (education) she provides leadership and coordination of the Schools portfolio of programmes in relation to learning and teaching strategies, student engagement and success, quality assurance and enhancement and employability. She leads the School Education Forum which develops practice and implements strategies to strengthen the quality of the Schools portfolio to enhance student experience and success.
