Krassimir Stojanov

Krassimir Stojanov is Professor and Chair of Philosophy of Education and Educational Theory at the University of Eichstaett, Germany. In his recent work that is dedicated to the development of a contemporary theory of Bildung he bridges Hegelian ("Continental") and Analytic Philosophy. He also elaborates on a conception of educational justice within the framework of the new Frankfurt School.

Krassimir Stojanov  was born in Goce Delcev, Bulgaria, in 1965. After studying philosophy, pedagogy, and sociology in Sofia and Hannover, he finished his PhD at the University of Hannover in 1997. Prof. Stojanov completed his habilitation at the University of Marburg in 2005, with a study on 'Bildung and Recognition'. From 2002 to 2005 he led his own project funded by the German Research Council (DFG), which dealt with the conceptual development of a recognition-theoretic concept of Bildung in cooperation with the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research.  From 2004 to 2005 Prof. Stojanov was a Visiting Scholar at the New School for Social Research, New York. In 2006 and 2007 he worked as a DAAD guest lecturer at the University of Sofia as well as at the New Bulgarian University Sofia. From October 2008 until his appointment as Professor of Philosophy of Education and Educational Theology at the KU on April 1, 2012, Krassimir Stojanov held the position of Professor of Educational Theory and Philosophy of Education at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich.

Krassimir Stojanov is married. He isan enthusiastic mountaineer in his spare time.
