My research focuses on crossovers between contemporary art, cognitive sciences, and technology. I explore how artists have inquired into the nature of self-consciousness and interpersonal awareness through the pairing of biofeedback devices with audio-video projections that enable an embodied understanding of mind’s complexity.

Biography
Cristina Albu is Assistant Professor of Contemporary Art History and Theory at University of Missouri - Kansas City. Her research focuses on interconnections between contemporary art, cognitive sciences, and technology. She is the author of Mirror Affect: Seeing Self, Observing Others in Contemporary Art (Minnesota University Press, 2016) and the co-editor (with Dawna Schuld) of Perception and Agency in Shared Spaces of Contemporary Art (Routledge, 2018). Her next book charts the historical trajectories of art projects reflective of both conscious and unconscious communication between art participants engaged in witnessing their brainwave rhythm via technological interfaces.Education
