I fell in love with Latin America by living in a Dominican neighborhood in New York and learning Spanish on the streets. My neighbors invited me to the Dominican Republic for the holidays. When I got my first job in journalism after graduating Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, it was because I spoke Spanish (although I suppose the prestigious degree didn't hurt). I eventually ended up spending fourteen years in Latin America and the love affairs with Latin America and journalism continue.
