Erkan Ali

Lecturer in English Language and Literature
Guangdong University of Foreign Studies

Though originally trained in sociology, I am currently Lecturer of English Language and Literature at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) in China. My sociological interests are wide-ranging and include classical and contemporary social theory, media studies and the sociology of culture. But my primary interests are in visual sociology and visual methods, with a particular emphasis on photography.

I'm an educator and a free-thinker (atheist) with a background in Sociology and Cultural Studies. Originally from Manchester in the UK, I now teach at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in Guangzhou, China. In my spare time, I like to learn Chinese (Mandarin) and keep fit. I like watching films (though I'm often disappointed by contemporary cinema). I am also passionate about sports, particularly football, and I'm a life-long Manchester United fan.
