Cláudio M. Gomes is Group Leader at the Instituto Tecnologia Quimica e Biologica (ITQB) in Oeiras, Portugal. Born in 1970, graduated in Chemistry and Biotechnology at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1994), joined the Gulbenkian Ph.D. program in Biology and Medicine (1994-1995), and got a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry at ITQB (1999).
Biography
Cláudio M. Gomes is Group Leader at the Instituto Tecnologia Quimica e Biologica (ITQB) in Oeiras, Portugal. Born in 1970, graduated in Chemistry and Biotechnology at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1994), joined the Gulbenkian Ph.D. program in Biology and Medicine (1994-1995), and got a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry at ITQB (1999). Until setting up his independent laboratory (2003), he was Assistant Professor at the Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he started teaching in 2000. Currently he serves as expert project reviewer for different international foundations and funding agencies in Europe and in the US, is a member of the Editorial board of several scientific journals, and has regular activity as peer-reviewer in several international journals. The scientific activity of his group focuses on structural biology and biophysics of protein folding and misfolding, with an emphasis on metal-binding proteins and metal ions, amyloids and protein aggregation. Dr. Gomes has published over 80 peer-reviewed papers in ISI journals.Websites
