Dr. Lina Bertling Tjernberg is a full Professor in Power Grid Technology at KTH - the Royal Institute of Technology, in Sweden. Her research aims to develop models for electric power solutions for the future sustainable energy system. Areas of special expertise are in applied reliability theory and maintenance management. She participates as an expert and advisory in government and business and is active in various professional networks such as IEEE, IEA, CIGRE and CIRED.

Biography

Bio. Dr. Lina Bertling Tjernberg is a full Professor in Power Grid Technology at KTH - the Royal Institute of Technology since 2013. She has her research and undergraduate education from KTH. During 2007-2009 she was with the Swedish National Grid as Director of Research and Development. During 2009-2013 she was Professor in Sustainable Electric Power Systems at Chalmers University of Technology, and during 2009-2012 she was the Head of the Electric Power Engineering Division. She has been Visiting Professor at Stanford University at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering with Stanford Sustainable Systems Laboratory in 2014, and has spent two research periods in Canada; during 2000 at the University of Saskatchewan and during 2012/2013 at the University of Toronto and Kinectrics.

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

    Research interests and competence areas are in;  
    • Reliability modeling and assessment for complex systems, and maintenance planning and optimization including reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and reliability-centred asset management (RCAM). Including development of the computer tool in C++; RADPOW.
    • Applications for the electrical power system including; distribution- and transmission system and components, hydro-, wind-, nuclear power and HVDC and new developments with large energy storage, micro-grids, and electrical vehicles (EV)
    • Electrification of transportations including EV, More Electric Airplanes.
