Biography
LLB and Postgraduate Degree (U. Externado de Colombia), LLM in Commercial and Corporate Law (Queen Mary, University of London) and Ph.D. in Law (U. of Warwick). I specialise in financial derivatives and regulatory reforms in the UK and the US.My doctoral research was focused on three deficiencies of the OTC derivatives market. These are: transparency and liquidity, risk management through the use legal documentation, and the enhancement of central counterparty clearing system.
I have been granted with several scholarships from Externado de Colombia University, Fundación para el Futuro de Colombia COLFUTURO and Ecopetrol S.A. Most recently, the central bank of Colombia sponsored my Ph.D. at the University of Warwick.
I am a consultant on Central Clearing Services, Exchange and OTC markets, Legal Structure, Conflicts of Laws, CCPs-CMs agreements in Emerging Markets (Nigeria). I provide institutional consulting services on Post-Brexit regulatory reforms -( Bank of England). I’m a registered independent expert at the IMF.
Additionally, I have been lecturer of Commercial Law, Financial Law and Investment Arbitration in different undergraduate and graduate programmes at Externado de Colombia University. I’ve been assistant lecturer of the Financial Services Regulation Seminar at School of Law- University of Warwick. I’ve been conference presenter in Oxford, Cornell, Harvard, among others. Currently, I’m an Associate Professor at Externado de Colombia University.
Several of my research articles have been published in Canadian (BFLR), British (Financial Reg. International Warwick Law School Working Paper Series) and Colombian Law Journals. I published a chapter on "Multiple Strategies of Financial Regulation in the Colombian OTC Derivatives Market" book" Law and Policy in Latin America: Transforming Courts, Institutions and Rights" (Palgrave, 2017). I’m publishing my book "Regulation and Supervision of the OTC Derivatives Market" (Routledge,to be released May2018).
