Jos Swanenberg is affiliated with the Department of Culture Studies and Babylon, Center for the Study of Superdiversity in Tilburg. He holds the chair on Linguistic and Cultural Diversity in Brabant. He publishes on dialects, youth language and culture, regional and cultural identities, popular culture and online culture, language policies, and lexicology. He is president of the board of the Association for Applied Linguistics in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Biography

In 1992 Swanenberg got his MA in Dutch language and literature at Utrecht University, specializing in syntax and semantics. He worked till 2008 at the Department of Linguistics at Radboud University in Nijmegen, obtaining his PhD on lexical variation in Brabant in 2000.
Since 2004 he also works as a regional language adviser with Erfgoed Brabant (Cultural heritage foundation) and since 2009 he holds an endowed chair on the linguistic and cultural diversity in Brabant.
