Dominic CY Foo
Dominic C.Y. Foo, Ph.D., P.E., is a Professor of Process Design and Integration and the director for the Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies at the University of Nottingham Malaysia. Professor Foo won the Innovator of the Year Award 2009 of IChemE, Outstanding Young Malaysian Award 2012, SCEJ Outstanding Asian Researcher Award, among others. He has published 8 books, more than 160 journal papers and made more than 30 keynote/plenary speeches.
Biography
Professor Ir. Dr. Dominic Foo is a Professor of Process Design and Integration at the University of Nottingham Malaysia, and is the Founding Director for the Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), a Fellow of the Academy of Science Malaysia (ASM), a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Engineering Council UK, a Professional Engineer (PEng) with the Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM), as well as the President for the Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE). He is a world renowned scholar in process integration focusing on resource conservation and CO2 reduction. He establishes international collaboration with researchers from various countries in the Asia, Europe, American and Africa. Professor Foo is an active author, with eight books, more than 160 journal papers and made more than 220 conference presentations, with more than 30 keynote/plenary speeches. He served as International Scientific Committees for many important international conferences (CHISA/PRES, FOCAPD, ESCAPE, PSE, SDEWES, etc.). Professor Foo is the Editor-in-Chief for Process Integration and Optimization for Sustainability (Springer Nature), Subject Editor for Process Safety & Environmental Protection (Elsevier), and editorial board members for several other renowned journals. He is the winners of the Innovator of the Year Award 2009 of IChemE, Young Engineer Award 2010 of IEM, Outstanding Young Malaysian Award 2012 of Junior Chamber International (JCI), Outstanding Asian Researcher and Engineer 2013 (Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan), Vice-Chancellor’s Achievement Award 2014 (University of Nottingham) and Top Research Scientist Malaysia 2016 (ASM).Education

Foo becomes Fellow of ASM

Professor Dominic C. Y. Foo at the University of Nottingham Malaysia has been elected as a Fellow in Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) on 27 April 2019 at ASM's Annual General Meeting. To be eligible as a Fellow of ASM, the personal must fulfil several criteria, such as demonstrating outstanding individual achievement or leadership in science, engineering and technology. Fellows of ASM have the right to use the designatory letters FASc.

In conjunction with ASM’s 25th Anniversary, the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) had launched the ASM Fellows’ Lecture series, i.e. FAScinate™. FAScinate™ is a play on the word “fascinate” combined with “FASc”, the abbreviation for Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. FAScinate™ features a refreshed format, transitioning from a formal lecture-style presentation into a more casual engagement, to bring science closer to the community.
The inaugural FAScinate™ was held on 12 November 2019 at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) Kuala Lumpur. It featured engaging presentations by six ASM Fellows, including Professor Dominic Foo from University of Nottingham Malaysia.

Professor Dominic Foo, Professor of Process Design and Integration at The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) received the Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) Award on 15 August 2016. The TRSM award was given by the Academy of Science Malaysia (ASM), aims to recognise and showcase the accomplishments of Malaysian researchers as role models of science excellence, science ambassadors and leaders, driving the nation’s science, technology and innovation agenda. The key reason Professor Foo won the TRSM award is his world leading research in chemical engineering process design and integration.
Outstanding Asian Researcher and Engineer

Each year the Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan (SCEJ) awards individuals under the age of 45 who have carried out research or technological development in the field of chemical engineering that has had an influence in Asia, outside Japan.
For 2013, The SCEJ Award for Outstanding Asian Researcher and Engineer was awarded to Professor Dominic Foo for his excellent research work in chemical engineering. Professor Foo was invited to attend the award ceremony and to present a lecture at the SCEJ annual meeting, which will be held in Gihu, Japan, from 18–20 March 2014.
