Kris Van den Branden

I am committed to making a contribution to the improvement of education in the 21st century. As a teacher educator, educational researcher and professor of Linguistics at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Leuven, I try to construct bridges between research and educational practice. My main research areas are equity in education, education in the 21st century and the role of the teacher in task-based education.


I am a teacher educator and professor of linguistics at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Leuven (Belgium). I have published several articles and books on equity and excellence in education and on innovation in 21st-century education. One of my main research areas is task-based language teaching: I was the first President of the International Association for Task-Based Language Teaching (IATBLT vzw) and I am currently one of the series editors of a volume series on task-based language teaching. I am also one of the chief editors of the journal ITL (International Journal of Applied Linguistics). I am the current academic promoter of the Centre for Language and Education, which supports schools in offering all students maximal opportunities to learn, irrespective of their ethnic or linguistic background.
