Mark Evans

Biography

After training in theatre in Paris with Jacques Lecoq, Philippe Gaulier and Monika Pagneux in the early 1980s, I worked on the London Fringe until moving full-time into teaching. I have worked in theatre and higher education for over twenty five years.

I am an expert in actor training and theatre education, in particular movement training for actors and performers. I have four books currently published by Routledge, 'Jacques Copeau' (author, 2006), 'Movement Training for the Modern Actor' (author, 2009), 'The Actor Training Reader' (editor, 2015) and 'The Routledge Companion to Jacques Lecoq' (co-editor with Rick Kemp, 2016). I have recently published a co-authored chapter (with Cass Fleming) on Jacques Copeau for the Great Theatre Directors series (Bloomsbury, 2018), as well as writing the entry on Jacques Copeau for Digital Theatre Plus. I have most recently published a book on movement for Palgrave Macmillan, entitled 'Performance, Movement and the Body' (2019), and co-edited and contributed to a book entitled 'Time and Performer Training' for Routledge (2019). I am currently writing a new critical introduction to Jacques Lecoq's book 'The Moving Body'. I am an Associate Editor for the Theatre, Dance and Performance Training journal, published by Routledge, and was a co-convenor for the Performer Training Working Group in the Theatre and Performance Research Association from 2012 to 2015.

I am a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
